There’s something special about heading into the remote corners of Iceland with a clear goal in mind, especially when that goal involves untouched snow, towering mountains, and the thrill of snowbiking. Recently, we set out on a scouting mission to the East of Iceland, searching for new terrain to elevate our snowbiking adventures. What we found exceeded every expectation.
Neskaupsstaður
The journey began around the stunning fjord-side town of Neskaupsstaður. Over the course of two days, we explored the surrounding mountains with a local friend who knows the mountains like the back of his hand, weaving through deep snowfields, ridgelines, and untouched descents. The area delivered everything you’d hope for, varied terrain, reliable snow conditions, and breathtaking views stretching out over the Eastfjords. It quickly became clear that this region holds enormous potential for guided snowbiking experiences.
But the real surprise came on day three
Venturing further into the East, we reached Dyrfjöll, a dramatic and rugged mountain range that instantly stood out. From the first ride, it was obvious, this was something else entirely. Perfectly spaced lines, consistent snow quality, and terrain that seemed almost designed for snowbiking. Wide-open descents flowed seamlessly into technical sections, offering both challenge and pure exhilaration. By the end of the day, we agreed that this was the best snowbiking area we had ever discovered in Iceland.
What made the experience even better was how naturally the terrain allowed us to choose riding lines based on skill level. Whether looking for smooth, flowing descents or more technical and demanding routes, it was easy to adapt each run to the rider. The mountains offered multiple options side by side, making it possible to keep everyone challenged and progressing while still riding together in the same area.
Heli-Snowbiking in the East of Iceland
What makes this even more exciting is the flexibility we offer at Arctic Trailblazers. We’re not limited to one base or region, we can bring our bikes anywhere in Iceland. Whether it’s the remote Eastfjords, the highlands, or the northern mountain ranges, we can build an adventure around the best conditions available. This scouting trip confirmed what we’ve long suspected: the East of Iceland is not just a hidden gem, it’s one of the most optimal places in the country for snowbiking.
And for those looking to take the experience to another level, imagine this: instead of a long approach, you lift off in a helicopter, flying over Iceland’s vast, untouched landscapes before being dropped directly into the best snowbiking terrain, wherever that happens to be in the country. From there, it’s just us riding together through endless descent of fresh snow. Adding a helicopter transfer opens up access to terrain that would otherwise take hours to reach, transforming the adventure into something truly unforgettable. Check out HeliAir Iceland if a heli ride is your thing.
Conclusion
This trip was more than just a scouting mission. It was a glimpse into the future of snowbiking in Iceland. With regions like Neskaupsstaður and Dyrfjöll now firmly on our map, we’re more excited than ever to bring riders into these wild, untouched landscapes.

The East is calling and we’re ready to ride.
